Medical Community Transport

The voluntary car scheme is mainly for essential medical appointments – doctor, dentist, optician, consultant, and any other medical professional. You can also use the service to visit family and friends who are in hospital or in residential care. 151006 Volunteer Action logo

How do you use the service?
1. Call Volunteer Action on 01832 275433 as soon as you have an appointment. We would prefer 48 hours’ notice if possible.
2. We need journey details – date and time of the appointment and if you have any other requirements such as wheelchair adapted vehicle.
3. You’ll be told the cost of your journey.
4. On the day of your appointment one of our volunteer drivers will pick you up at your home.

Who is eligible for the service?
Anyone who finds public transport unsuitable or unavailable, and cannot afford taxis. The service is also available for disabled people with wheelchairs, zimmer frames or other walking aids.

Who uses the service?
It is available to everyone living in East Northamptonshire. Children under 16 years are welcome – as long as an adult travels with them.

Who will drive you?
Local volunteer drivers who are willing to use their own car and give up their free time to help people in their community.

Could you volunteer as a driver?
Volunteer driving is rewarding and very enjoyable and we need you! A mileage allowance is also paid. If you’re interested, please ring us on 01832 275433 for an informal chat and more information.
